Energy and Gold/Silver Penny Stocks

Posted by zwyss on 18th of Jan 2011 at 09:05 am

I normally don't post, only read here.

I would appreciate to get some ideas/set ups, (also or especially penny stocks) from the energy sector and the gold/silver sector. (Where is rank?). I liked the discussions about BTR.V and DUNR, I owned both, I even managed to sell DUNR at 0.52......

My preferred set up is a uptrending stock in a consolidation/pull back and the stock is at support. In my opinion there are some set ups in the energy/uranium sector like

FIS.V      at support, looks  like an ascending triangle

FIU.TO    backtesting breakout of a triangle

    STM.TO   at support,  ascending triangle

UWE.V    ascending triangle, maybe a little late, just before breakout

I don't see many good set ups in small gold and silver stocks. Maybe at or near some kind of support are OSU.TO,  GBN.TO, UMG.TO, EVG.TO, SGR.TO, CMJ.V.  But break of support and more downside seems not unlikely... but gold and silver stocks could bounce here, as Matt said in the todays newsletter...

I really would appreciate some trade ideas in this sector.

    Thanks to all

    AVL.to was a good buy

AVL.to was a good buy at 5 yesterday, has since filled the gap. URC.v(uranuim play in Quebec)support around .27, break out of triangle .34 area. MGA.to consolidating in narrow range, energy building right here around a buck. MAT.v(rare earth junior and also has a gold JV with Goldcorp) bull flag support .50 break out around .63. THC.v(alot of interest in their coal property) break out .49 then .55

    FIS.V...

    ... is going up.

I was talking about set ups of smaller stocks in Uranium/Energy sector a coiuple of days ago.

Bad timing for most of them, but FIS. V popped today.

    Here's a couple of small ones I am following, they've all pulled back to the 200MA. CRK.TO, LMA.TO, CGG.TO, R.TO I don't have any positions.

    as I went over yesterday,

as I went over yesterday, a lot of major gold players are nearing suppport like BVN at the 200 day MA etc.  I have a list of Juniors as well, I'll go over those later today.

I've found it best to buy these stocks at support vs breakouts

    for example BVN closing at

for example BVN closing at the 200 day MA on Friday was too easy, wish I had saw that, I would have picked it up.  Now do I think it's ready to run back to the highs from here, no, however a bounce yes for sure to retrace part of that decline, then I think it will consolidate again.  The positive divergence via the Histogram tells you that a bounce was coming but the lack of positive divergence via the standard MACD tells you that it will only be a bounce, then needs to consolidate
