OIH back testing yesterday's breakout.

Also looking at telecomm (for the ira accounts) both VZ and T have nice yields and are at/near their lows

any thoughts for this sector?

DUG

Look at OIH (RIG, SLB, HAL largest holdings) all time high. Might be worth hedging any DUG with a little OIH or one of the top holdings.

Watching DUG only thing, other than small SMN position, it the trading account. DUG trying to push through its 20MA. Did just open small position in LEH in an IRA account. One of those buy, set a stop and forget about for awhile.

Watching USO - do think

Posted by ocracoke53 on 19th of Jun 2008 at 02:55 pm

Watching USO - do think oil needs to correct before we really get a bounce. Trading the ultra index ETFs by watching USO has worked. If USO moves below its 20ma i think the mkt will take off.

Becoming a better trader

val...

very true, have been a BpT member now for almost 3yrs. First year, things went well, I was more of a long term swing trader. Second year started trading more, didn't have the understanding/knowledge for Intraday trading - wasn't pretty. This year much better, did get a StockChart membership so I could follow and learn on the interday posts. You need to know what the interday indicators are telling you, don't fight market direction, manage your trades and your emotions. What has helped the most has been the advice and posts from a lot of good folks (matt, steve, rp, doc, dylan and others).

A little neg divergence showing

Posted by ocracoke53 on 16th of Jun 2008 at 02:02 pm

A little neg divergence showing on $DJR 15 chart here at 265. Don't think I want to go long here with the SRS (short etf) - but worth watching. Shorting anything here may be an issue if we get good numbers tomorrow from GS.

dodger, thks for the index

Posted by ocracoke53 on 16th of Jun 2008 at 11:45 am

dodger, thks for the index updates. I'm sitting on the sideline waiting for this bounce to play out before moving back into any shorts. Did take profits on LEH long from the post the other day.

GS reports before the open tomorrow.

rp, thanks for the ETF info.

rp,

thanks for the ETF info. You guys have fun in Cabo.

Took profits in my short stocks/ETFs yesterday. As a trade went long with LEH yesterday.

SMN

KO

dylan,

http://www.etfconnect.com/ gives you the holdings of many of the ETFs.

When I search on SMN I get the major holdings:

As of 2/29/2008
Holding Dollar Value % of Total Portfolio
Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. 3.080% 03/03/08 $62,979,000.00 45.52
UBS Warburg LLC 3.080% 03/03/08 $38,178,000.00 27.59
Bank of America Corp. 3.060% 03/03/08 $17,998,000.00 13.01
Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. 3.130% 03/03/08 $16,362,000.00 11.83

But this sure doesn't look like the Basic Material Index, but then Yahoo has the SMN listed as:

The investment seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, which correspond to twice the inverse of the daily performance of the Dow Jones U.S. Basic Materials index. The fund normally invests 80% of assets in financial instruments with economic characteristics that should be inverse to those of the index.

I'm net short, and have been trading SRS and SKF that has been good trades. So I'm in agreement - DIE Mkt  You guys have fun in Cabo, but make sure you have inet connection
