One thought would be to take a small position if you have
conviction in the longer term outlook for the rare earths, then add
to it slowly; in addition, selling put options (especially with the
VIX spiking) could lower your cost basis if assigned.
I've been averaging down into AVL and will be assigned MCP at
57.50 this weekend (ouch, but the put write lowered my cost basis
by $2.18/share). I let it get assigned to me with the
intention of writing calls on it when it bounces- lowering cost
basis even further. Not going to panic out of it. These
are volatile stocks.
Uranium sector (e.g. CCJ) also has been taken to the woodshed
lately and might be interesting to accumulate for the longer
term.

Well I'm short the 57.50 Aug 20 puts, so was happy to see the
after hours quote. Especially after the recent pullback.
Guess it's always a roll of the dice holding through
earnings, but this time it appears to have worked out..

I needed that reminder...thank you! But I'm not gonna sell
at the bottom like I did last time (of course, not saying this is
it..). Worst case I'll turn the computer off for a few years
then see how I did. Uraniums and some rare earth plays have
been taken to the woodshed.

Shorted some puts yesterday ($32 strike) that expire this
week. May do some more at $33. Limits your gains
but seems like easy money if the bounce holds up for a few
days. Worst case you wind up with some $32 or $33 paper
silver to play with.

Stumbled across this one looking for short put trades. Looks promising, at least short term, for a possible bounce.

FTR was a nice trade. But seems to be rising on declining volume. Taking profits here. Maybe early- maybe it fills the gap...
