I also noticed that consumer discretionary, which had been holding up, is starting to weaken, too. Check out LOW as an example on today's earnings. Another canary?

Sure looks like it. I spotted that today when reviewing my holdings. The STS system also went flat on IYT on May 17. Guess we should have listened sooner!  :o)  (I've been out of town for a week, so I didn't get the signal till today.)

Your STS tables gave us daily longs on SPY and DIA on May 3. I have a little of each.

XBI - new long on STS system for this morning. It's actually hanging in there pretty well considering today's slide. I have hope. I own a fractional share. - LOL.  Why? This is my first STS trade in a market that looks like it wants to tank. Go XBI!  Matt, this is the first of the "sector" trades I'm doing with my son.

And CENX has earnings 5/1 before open.

With the possiblility of another leg down ahead, we might want to follow UVXY. If the VIX is really going to pop, UVXY is a great way to trade it. Just don't overstay your welcome.

I like the futures idea. Also, I thought these trusts like SLV and GLD were more heavily taxed due to the collectibles designation. I have a gold coin or two, but I'm not really interested in tying up my $$$ right now in a physical asset. I have need of my cash for a move. Thanks, all for your feedback.

I would love some feedback from BPT and its members on how you trade precious metals like silver. I have stock in a few miners, but I've stayed away from SLV, GLD, etc., because they are taxed as collectibles. I know that's pretty lame, but I don't like to trade what I don't understand if I'm going to find out later that much of the profit went to paying taxes and fees. The problem with trading only the miners is that, often, they just don't move with the metal- even when the metal is moving nicely. I'm looking for an approach that covers both. Perhaps a trust like SLV is the way to go. If so, I'd welcome your feedback.
