Do you know if the VIX is in contango or backwardation? That is
an important thing to consider when going short volatility (long
XIV in this case). Best to long XIV only when VIX is in
contango.
I'm trading of a 10m chart.... I really don't care much about it
and don't look at the short term VIX futures strip ...
those ETFs are VERY short term in nature ... and usually day trades
for me!

Gotcha. Yes day trading contango doesn't matter. I like to swing long XIV after a big volatility event when things calm down and VIX in contango.
