Would you happen to have any data on who usually ends up being right on this?  I know that in commodities it usually ends up being large commercials (and I tend to assume the same in ES), but with so many options/ hedging products out there I wonder if the relationship still holds.  I'm asking because I really don't know the answer and it seems like a pretty important one.

nice!

The implied volatility of SPX options is the lowest its been in years.  I wouldn't describe any sale right now as "easy income". Why did you go out farther in time? Likely because the premium for shorter term options simply wasn't there.  Not saying you won't be right. Just that option premium is "dirt cheap" compared to the last few YEARS.

why not cover the downside and buy the $5 put for .06 ticks. or...pay .08 for the feb 6.5 p.  I was a an options market maker on the floor of the COMEX and NYBOT for many years and have seen crazier things happen.  LOL. Plus, you free up capital and can do more!

One word about UNG - like USO, these assets are  subject to "decay" in the sense that they are ETFs that maintain futures positions and as such are continually forced to roll each both. Therefore, they are constantly buy more expensive contracts and selling out cheaper ones.  Has to do with contracts being in contango vs backwardation  (This is my understanding of it at least. Please feel free to elaborate/correct!)

really is the "widow-maker". jeez.

I use Option Alpha for automated option trades. But it's definitely a work in progress and not altogether that useful for this type of trading (yet).  But certainly has the potential to be in the future.

Yes- Orthodox Christmas. Or they ran out of ammo.

Because different people have different ways of getting long- via SPY options, SPX options,   ES futures or options, ETFs etc. Matt gives us information that allows us to make decisions about how we wish to trade. It works.
