Can't speak for Matt on this specific trade. However I prefer to
sell options vs buy them when volatility is high. Sell the Premium
vs pay the premium. The main disadvantage(theoretical) is that you
cap your upside to the credit you receive. Whereas if you buy the
option the upside is far higher and the downside is capped to price
paid. I personally like Calendar and Diagonal spreads, I will sell
a shorter term option to help pay for the longer term more
expensive option. As wih all option trades be sure you
understand the risk reward before trying, they can go wrong
quickly. Hope that made sense, LOL.

After all that, I ended the day down $40, LOL, was looking worse
for awhile, to many upside bets, to little downside protection. I
was a winner selling ES futures, but some of my option positions
didn't do so well(the long ones, Ha Ha). Glad I had the CAT puts or
would have been ugly.

Thanks. for update. I've flipped several of my options spreads
to short term bearish. Makes me basically neutral for now. I did
short the ES on this mornings small rally. My plan for now is to
scalp ES ticks, and sell rally's. I do think there is a reasonable
chance of a rally, just probably not for a few days. Happy hunting,
thanks for the update Matt.

but thought I would have time to adjust upward if I wanted to.
Looks like a good call short term anyway though

Thanks Steve, I appreciate this morning commentary. I personally
bought a couple ES contracts at 4474 this morning. The tougher call
for me is what you mentioned, is this a dead cat bounce, or the
beginning of a short term uptrend. We will see.

I agree, a long year of flat to slightly down. Also a quick 20% woosh would start bringing it down more quickly. Either is concerning, IMHO
Yes Steve I forgot, thanks.

Almost pulled the trigger yesterday, but didn't. I do need some downside hedges, so just did a put calendar spread targeting the 125 area
