Newsletters and feedback

Posted by matt on 16th of Jun 2026 at 05:52 pm

As you've guys have seen, I've been evolving the newsletter process over the last month.  In the past all the newsletters were 20 to 30 min audio based, with a big video on the weekend. Intra week, however I've been doing a combination of some audio based and non-audio written text newsletters like the one last night

    https://breakpointtrades.com/archived/?email_id=494716106

I think all the formats have their merit and purpose, not all the newsletters should be audio, not all should be video, and not all should be written comments/non-audio like last night.  I do think the written out ones like last night, are faster to look through at times, and because I'm writing my comments out, you don't miss that info, whereas sometimes people may half pay attention to an audio or video and  miss some important comments

anyway what do you guys think? do you like the evolution?

    Matt,

after some 15+ years of BPT (having made enough from your trade ideas to fund a lifetime of subscriptions), i've found that the expansive weekend formats are simply a must read/listen to.  With Steve not here to share the work/effort for all the videos etc.  it was just a matter of time before you decided that you needed to save some of your bandwidth (family time and trading ideas?). For me, if you just did the video format weekends, and shortened/highlight version for wednesday (email highlights for monday/tuesday/thursday),  i would be fine with that (unless of course there is a catalyst for you to do something more expansive another day). In any event, please keep those trade ideas coming. My trading/investing has evolved over the years do in no small part to BPT. thanks.

    Written updates are ok for

Written updates are ok for intra-weekly, for me at least. The real meat is in the weekend overviews, hope those remain unchanged.  If it saves you time and energy to write the intraweek updates instead of making audio recordings, go for it.

    Hi Matt, my 2 bits

Hi Matt, my 2 bits for what its worth.

I do like the email newsletters as well but nothing beats your audio newsletters - maybe because I have been listening to them for years and I have grown used to it.  We can see that you do put a lot of effort into the audio newsletters and if the email newsletter saves you some time and you feel like you would be repeating yourself from 1 day to the next in the audio one if nothing much changed in the market or you didn't have substantial macro events to talk about then I can see why there is efficiency with you skipping an audio newsletter from time to time.

Personally I would not like to see the in-depth weekend newsletter turn into an email though - and quite often some of your comments leaving me busting a gut laughing out loud, and we won't get those always in the email.  Also, part of me feels like - we know you put a lot of effort into the audio newsletters and if someone is not paying attention and misses an important comment then that's there loss and those of us that capitalize because we were paying attention properly are like the kids in school that listened to the teachers lectures and therefore knew what to study for on the exams and got good grades.

Whatever you decide though in the end is ok with this subscriber.  So far I have read all the email newsletters and I do find them very useful.

thank everyone for all the feedback and also regarding the weekend newsletters I was never planning to make them text email only, that's only for some intra week newsletters. The only time a weekend newsletter might like that is if I was out of town and just didn't have the time and resources to do a video long format, but otherwise those weekend newsletters the plan was to never change those.

    This is a better visual

This is a better visual after the weekend update, a better opportunity to study the charts.

    I like the mixing up

I like the mixing up based on the current market conditions.  If there are no changes, no reason to do a long newsletter. Just reiterate and go.

Matt, the written ones are ok at times, for me, there is more information I absorb when there is audio explanations that go along with the short newsletters.

    Matt: The written ones work

Matt: The written ones work well. More importantly, I'm betting the written ones are a lot less time intensive for you, It was different when Steve did them as well, but you are going to burn out at some point putting out 5 videos a week by yourself.

    written ones are fine when

written ones are fine when the market does not move much during the day and things haven't changed much

    thx guys, like I said,

Posted by matt on 16th of Jun 2026 at 06:43 pm

thx guys, like I said, everyone has preferences, some really like the written ones actually prefer them, some don't as much, some like the videos, some like the audio, and some like a combo meaning they like all formats but don't want 20 to 30 min every day, sometimes just short updates such as on Monday especially after the long weekend newsletters.

that said, the other universal feedback I've received is that with Steve gone, the newsletters flow better, and everything on the site flows together better.  There was confusing at times with Steve's newsletters contracting mine at times or just simply not covering stuff I was strongly focused on. And of course, I really don't miss his insistence on covering those micro pink shit stocks, those stocks have no business here, and that last one BMXI really made me cringe like this, https://breakpointtrades.com/blog/post/462836/

Yes — dollar volumeis the better filter.

A 2M-share/day rule can still allow garbage penny stocks:

    2,000,000 shares × $0.014 = $28,000/day

That is not liquidity. That is a trap door.

    Better liquidity formula

    Use:

    Average Dollar Volume=Average Daily Volume×Average Price\text{Average Dollar Volume} = \text{Average Daily Volume} \times \text{Average Price}Average Dollar Volume=Average Daily Volume×Average Price

    Better yet:

    ADV$=Average of (Volume×Close) over 20 days\text{ADV\$} = \text{Average of }(\text{Volume} \times \text{Close})\text{ over 20 days}ADV$=Average of (Volume×Close) over 20 days

    I would use both:

Liquidity Tier 20-day average dollar volume Meaning
Avoid under $2M/day Too thin, spreads and fills likely bad
Caution $2M–$10M/day Tradeable only with patience and limits
Acceptable $10M–$25M/day Reasonable for small/medium positions
    Good over $25M/day Better liquidity

    I'll be fine with a

I'll be fine with a mix of formats, honestly, I don't often have time for a long newletter, something I can skim in 7 minutes, would be ideal.    Focus on the primary "indicators" to show when the market is stretched in several ways is useful to me.   And of course, all the SPY MES trade systems are important, but handled quite well through email.
