    How does one buy BPTRX?

    RONB is another I believe

RONB is another I believe that has spacex too (same family of funds). But DO check.

    it's a fund. you place

it's a fund. you place a buy during the day like the olden days, get end of day  price (there's no intra day), I think orders typically have to be placed before the last hr of the day.

it's been too long, you guys are too used to instant gratification buying any stock or ETF.  Back in the 90s and early 2000's funds were big, and they are still used mostly for 401K plans at jobs

if you work a job and have a company 401K, you typically dont' buy stocks and ETF's, you choose the list of mutual funds they have, you place an order that gets filled end of day only

I never trade funds for obvious reasons, only reason I own this is because back in March I bought a basket of these stocks/instruments that hold pre IPO SpaceX shares.  I bought SATS, DXYZ, STCGF, and XOVR.  BPTRX was also one I bought (the fund), I wanted a basket of them because I didn't know which one would do best

    one thing is for sure

one thing is for sure that SpaceX IPO is crazy from a historical perspective.

    1. for the sheer size of it 1.7 Trillion puts it right up there with the Mag 7 in terms of market cap on day one, just insane!

    2. The fact that it becomes part of the indexes S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 within 14 days is simply unprecedented.  The way it's always been is that it was a MIMIMUIM of 3 months, and generally it was usually 6 months or longer. The reason for this time is that the time allowed for 'proper' price discovery before new IPO's became part of the indexes, and honestly I think that rule made sense.  Clearly this is not possible after only 14 days.  And after 14 days, the majority of the general public will own SpaceX as a proxy based on passive investing in the indexes.

    3. SpacX is really 3 major companies: StarLink (which owns a bunch of small space satellite smaller companies), XAI, the artificial Intelligence, and X.  XAI is pretty much a POS, and X isn't a lot better.  Starlink is the money maker, and still the total revenue of SpaceX is about 19B with a net loss last year of 4.9B.  The Starlink portion generates about 11.4 B in revenue.  Starlink has potential overtime to became a behemoth telecommunications company to also compete with Verizon, ATT, but will take time.

The best thing would be for an eventual 50% correction on the SpaceX stock sometime in the future, then it would probably be a good buy and hold and forget it. But on IPO day it's gonna be nutty.   The wildcard is the TINY 14 day window where it will become part of the indexes, had this been like the old days where it would have to be at least 3 months, then I think the stock would drop right away - but that 14 day thing might keep it aloft since indexes and funds will be forced to buy it.

then after 6 months the lockup period expires for the lucky insiders who bought it years ago, many will want to lock in profits, that will probably create a nice correction as well

    Nice summary Matt; from my

Nice summary Matt; from my knowledge all this buying mostly comes from rebalance selling of the other index stocks, with minor new $ from sidelines.  The size for this rotation in the short timeframe theoretically should cause decent quick corrections in the indexes. Chime in if there are other thoughts but Im cautious on this IPO initially.
