Wiped out again

    UPRO 30 wiped out on 4 straight plays this year and retriggers the next day, if it could just stay in cash for a few weeks then I might have some peace! LOL  -$67k when SPX is -1%  on the year hurts.

    You must be wealthy. I'd be puking. Those are heavy losses.  Some systems are best avoided in the chop. But nothings easy.

    Not wealthy at all, trying

    Not wealthy at all, trying to be and it's not working. Been a member here for 3.25 years and flat P&L after this last stop out. Puked several times which is an understatement.

    Look at the SPX today and UPRO 30 is going to retrigger and I might just lose my mind...

    Just my 2cents from experience

    Posted by mitchell on 4th of Mar 2026 at 12:19 pm

    Just my 2cents from experience on the systems over the yrs...better in an uptrend; not as reliable during chop or heavy downturns as they give false signals (again from my experience b/c backtesting doesnt always translate to my real world), and yes dont trade levered during these times unless you have high conviction. I often sell options in these times instead, but that's my style.

    Posted by pebs on 4th of Mar 2026 at 12:26 pm

    The question is: when do you know when it is the end of chop and the start of a new trend?  Me personally… in times of uncertainty, I tend to trade good set ups instead of the systems. I find the best systems here are the reversion to the mean systems, especially the 2nd and 3rd entries.

    AND THERE SHE BLOWS!!!!  UPRO 30 back long!!!   I have to unsubscribe with another stop out.

    Couldn't even last 1 trading session in cash! -$27k on initial STS.

    Sounds like you are putting all of your eggs in one basket, if you don't have many eggs like you say. Try diversifying to other stocks.

    why are you trading the leveraged instrument? I think UPRO is 2x right? These always denegrade over time such is their nature

    Or put max 10% in UPRO and 90% in single stocks or ETFs.

    The backtest etc for UPRO is simply that and systems can stop working over time irrespective of how good historical performance was

    SSO is 2x and UPRO

    Posted by EdZ on 4th of Mar 2026 at 12:26 pm

    SSO is 2x and UPRO is 3x.  Seling options as been very profitable during all of this chop.

    Absolutely. I have been selling MU calls on upswings and puts on downswings and that is making me good money even as the stock goes sideways.

    Posted by vsunil on 4th of Mar 2026 at 01:31 pm

    I have been trading most of the high perf systems including UPRO and SSO and other leveraged and due to diversification across many HP systems, the accounts are up for the year even though indexes are negative to down for the year. You win some and lose some, but diversification helps instead of just trading only a couple of them. If one chose all HP systems as shown below and overall portfolio growth would have looked as follows for those dates. It's all about growing accounts consistently and diversified. The good thing is also that most of the time account is only around 40% in the market. The number are impressive for each year in the past.

    On 1_7  :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 1.42,
    On 1_9  :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 2.08,
    On 1_16 :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 3.23,
    On 1_20 :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 2.34,
    On 1_23 :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 4.06,
    On 1_30 :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 3.49,
    On 2_6  :: == Return for 2026, cnt = 56 return ave = 2.49,

    Curious if I understand the gist of what you are saying. It looks like you have a list of ~140 stocks that you trade in and out of based on KISS signals and use equal weight for each of these stocks. Correct?

    Posted by vsunil on 4th of Mar 2026 at 01:40 pm

    I am showing only for the HP KISS systems. When I calculated the return below, the count was around 56. Yes, when trading its equal weight for each stock traded.
