Matt
Yes, this is the setup I took. Profitable! Thanks for teaching
this method.
A couple of days ago, you mentioned using a 3 min chart in
conjunction with the 5 min chart to trigger a VIX BB entry on MES
but didn't give any specifics. I searched but was unable to find
anything else you had said about it. When you have time, could you
outline how you use those charts together?
dillaketime thanks, I post examples, but have not said anything
as exact as you state. What I do is I have 4 charts in front of me,
a 3, 5, 10, 15 min and I simply look for setups on them, whatever
looks best. It's not predicated on one vs the other, it's
whatever setup looks best.
I have various indicators on here such as volume and a custom
volume based momentum where I look for divergences. I also keep an
eye on the cycles and Demark, and VIX seems to respect the cycles
quite well, but otherwise the main setup is obviously the Bollinger
ands and the MES candle. I prefer doji candles to trigger off of
obviously.
also, if I see VIX riding the Bollinger Band down on a lower
time frame you can get a bunch of whipsaw triggers, so I'll shift
to a higher time frame as the VIX is likely not doing that on the
higher time frame.
entries are easy - targets not so much, that's up to you: one
target could be middle Bollinger bands, another target could be a
supply zone or resistance area. In a strong move I'll simply
move the stop up to each previous candle low (for a long) or candle
high (for a short). Initial stops are generally the low of
the trigger candle or the previous one,
the image show my TS charts, but otherwise I've posted the
Tradingview charts many times (doesn't have the volume momo
however
yes I can share custom indicators but that's something for
another time as it's involved - it's a whole big thing, I have to
get Tradingview usernames of folks, then go in and add that
username, it's busy work - something for another time. Instead of a
one off for someone, ideally I'd send something out to the website
and offer it, and get 10 or 20 or 30 usernames and do it all at
once vs individually here and there randomly. I'm so busy as
it is, can't keep up as it is.
, and I don't mind sharing indicators with BPT folks, maybe
there would be some condition that the indicators are free as long
as one keeps BPT membership or something IDK, that's for
another time
that cycle indicator is of a very similar concept to this one
from emini-watch.com, based on the Hilbert SineWave, but he charges
$100 a month as a lease, you can't just buy it, obviously you get a
suite of indicators not just one. You are free to try it
there, I personally think it's expense for a continued lease but
that's me
gives you an idea of the value you get here at BPT, membership
is $50 a month basically or less at times with some coupon,
and you get all this stuff, and I'd be letting folks use
these for free not asking for money.

Thanks for the detailed answer.
Using the KISS tables, the System Trades, and this VIX BB method
has turned my 30 year trading hobby from boom/bust to consistently
profitable. I needed the discipline these methods bring.

as I said, the VIX tends not to trend for a long time, so it tends to respect the cycle indicator well, here's a couple examples
