Has anyone tried TradingView for day trading intraday charts?
They are known for their charting but I'm just wondering if the
charts are fast enough for day trading.
as I've said so many times, I actually execute my trades through
them almost exclusively - I have my IB account connected. I place
orders, and set stops and targets and move those targets directly
from the charts
for example in Trading View here's an order I placed on TSLA as
an example (I probably wont' do this trade just showing as an
example)
I show a buy stop 1 penny above about the current doji on this
1/2 day chart, and if that buy stop triggers, a sell stop triggers
at the lows, along with a buy target. I can easily drag those
orders around on the chart -
LOL speaking of TSLA, I forget to cancel that order I showed
yesterday as an example of how I place trade orders in Trading
View. it obviously executed on the gap up open.
realize I should have canceled this. I'll just keep a stop at
entry now, instead of at lows as I don't feel like holding 100
shares of TSLA LOL
just sold 1/2 LOL, it shows 100 shares but sold 50.
also in Trading View whenever you sell, your existing buy stop
and sell limit orders are modified to reflect your current
shares
you can do all this in Tradestation - but the thing about TS is
that the charts get laggy, you don't get that in Trading View.
Also, if you have a Tradestation account you can just link it up to
Trading View and have your trades executed through the TradingView
charts instead of in Tradestation's interface
Nice! More good info. Thanks! I'm going to grab a
13=mo. subscription during the deal they have through Black Friday.
I'm finding after just two months that day trading really isn't my
thing, At least not at the 1-min timeframe. However, I really like
the TV charts. I'm not tossing TOS (ha ha). Just enhancing my
trading environment with TV to see if it's worth it.
Personally, I don't think TOS is just for trading options. I've
traded futs there, too, and love a lot of their tech indicators.
And since it's so popular they have a lot of traders creating
original indicators for it as well. I've always hated the IB
interface but for some reason, IB has a great corporate bond search
and trading, (though terrible at getting people to talk to who know
anything) and so does E-Trade. With rates higher, I like those
alternatives.
I hate IB's interface, but again their API allows one to link up
with other things like Trading View or Ninja trader to use those
interfaces. They have a lot of access to other instruments that
other brokers don't, and they are the most widely used by hedge
funds and have great institutional support
TOS is fine for many things and yes has an active community for
various indicators and simple strategies. That said, when we looked
at it their language is too simple and limiting, and it wasn't
possible for us to convert many of our systems and strategies over
it - that's not something that would be a problem for you guys but
for us it was.
again broker is highly personal to what your needs are, no one
right answer. The right answer is finding one or ones that fit your
needs the best
"They have a lot of access to other instruments that other
brokers don't..." Very true, an astounding difference of
instruments in some cases. What's puzzling is their entire lack of
personal service/knowledge. I'm more knowledgeable that some of the
people on their phone line! And I am no genius. And one department
is clueless about the other.
depends on what you do. if you were a day trader and scalper,
Lightspeed it excellent, the best for fast executions at good price
- but not needed if you do more swing trading and holding positions
even for a few days.
IB is fine, I hate the interface, but I don't really use that, I
just hook it up to TradingView and do trades through
there.
for me personally, I"d probably look at new brokers that I can
connect to that broker since I like doing the trades through
Trading View
if you are options guy you might like TOS, I'm not an
option guy
again depends on what your trading style and goals are

Do you have to reboot after it freezes or is it just delayed and then released to function again?
Never had to reboot........yet!

Thx, Matt. TOS is fine for swing trading, but it fails miserably as an intraday trading platform.
Looking for an additional broker.
