System trade retraction

Posted by matt on 6th of Oct 2022 at 04:45 pm

damn Tradestation - this trade was showing up still the last min of the day, now when I look it didn't trigger for the hi mid low, UGH.

the only reason I even try to send these out before the bell is because of options - that's why I may consider removing those then I can just wait until 2 min after the close to fully confirm, which is when the ETF prices settle.

so I'm going to take off the ETF here in after hr it's actually up a couple pennies from the close. The option nothing I can do, if market is down in the morning I just may take it off as I want to stick to the systems that are actually triggered, which right now is only one system short from the QE BTS for ES

the image shows the 9 short systems on SPY, the hi mid low at the bottom middle, didn't trigger like I said earlier

    we can just close out

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:21 am

we can just close out that option trade this morning as it will be profitable

    regarding that open SPY PUT

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:29 am

regarding that open SPY PUT option trade you could either close it out for profits on the open or wait to see how the market reacts today in case it ends up being an ugly Friday

    thx Matt, sold 1 holding

thx Matt, sold 1 holding 1 over

    good man - that's why

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:41 am

good man - that's why I think of showing on the website for the trade lists, minimum 2 contracts makes sense then you have ability to take scale out (like I have been doing lately with the systems) and keeping one.

a while back for the MES system trades I took the base amount up from 1 to 2 contracts, I should do that for the options as well take it up from 1,2, 3, to 2, 4, 6 - that way

    just sold the 2 option.

just sold the 2 option.  nice trade will pay for a subscription for a long time :-)

    Nice and LOL

    Nice and LOL

    yeah LOL on that ETF

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:57 am

yeah LOL on that ETF retraction yesterday, at least we had to keep the PUT's

I had forgotten that the Hi Mid Lo triggered a 1st entry short on ES yesterday, which we didn't take because it's not the version we typically use, I might have elected to keep that ETF. But the option ended up being the better bang for buck anyway - SH moves like molasses

    that SPY PUT now trading

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:50 am

that SPY PUT now trading for $30, was $25.6 yesterday

    SPY Put - Hi Mid

SPY Put - Hi Mid Lo - Sounds like a bunch of us "accidently" covered for nexts year's subscription cost with that trade!   #WhatPriceIncrease

    I sent out an alert

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:55 am

I sent out an alert to sell 1/2 that SPY put option, for those who did one than 1, I will make a decision later today to hold over weekend or just close out

    Those SPY put options for

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:35 am

Those SPY put options for Dec 16th 390 Strike are now NICELY profitable! Was purchased yesterday at 25.6, now trading at 28.6. You can either choose to close it out there for nice profits, or hold a bit longer and see how Friday develops.

either way don't let that option go back to your entry price should the market bounce - if the market starts to reverse up make sure to take it off for some sort of profit

    early heads up the open

Posted by matt on 7th of Oct 2022 at 09:24 am

early heads up the open ES short will likely close out today, it could end up holding if it ends up being a large down day that would flip it's trend hold indicator red

Waiting until 4:02pm (or :03, :04 or :05) to provide confirmed signals for System Trades should be no hardship on those wishing to trade options.  10 minutes is plenty of time to enter  option trades.  If you were to just to set your policy of confirming trades by 4:05pm, that should be satisfactory, as we would all wait until then before entering trades.  This would take some pressure off of you, and we would all know the ground rules.

    Totaly agree, plenty of time.

Totaly agree, plenty of time. Also have really been appreciating advance notices through the course of the day suggesting chance a trade may trigger, just so we can be readier at 4:02/5!

    SPY, SPX and XSP options

Posted by DigiNomad on 6th of Oct 2022 at 04:48 pm

SPY, SPX and XSP options trade until 4:15

More generally speaking - ETF and CBOE index options trade until 4:15.

SPX trades 24/5, supposedly. I've had some luck placing trades in it during the out hours, but the spreads are so wide that it might as well be closed...unless you have an emergency (it happens). If so, start your bid in the middle and then work towards the ask in small increments. If your system is set to place bids at the midpoint, never accept the default bid after you place your 1st order. In that case, you will often be splitting your half the spread into another 1/2. Meaning you went 75% towards the ask, instead of just slightly over halfway between the bid and ask.

    I always take the midpoint

Posted by brophy on 6th of Oct 2022 at 05:28 pm

I always take the midpoint on my option spreads, but good points.
