They use computer vision - however all produce is pre bagged and many customers prefer to select there own produce.  At this time computer vision can recognize about 85-90% of all store items so the margin of error is too great for broad adoption.  There are approximately 34,000 grocery stores in US so the market is massive and one should expect a broader movement towards smartcarts in the future.  However, this is a WORLDWIDE movement not just US and one must keep that in mind.

    I see interesting to say the least. I was wondering how they scanned the items. Also i heard that Iphone has scan app that u scan put in cart and walk out you know about that?

    Yes but they don't have a scale nor are they programmed into the Point of Sale terminals that NCR and Toshiba that are in over 90 percent of the stores.  Smartcarts are the way to go and  the US grocery store advertising market is a few hundred Billion a year which will be huge to revenue stream along with coupons and data management on what consumers are buying and even e-wallets.   Stay tuned
