    Apple asked iPhone supply chain to prepare 20% fewer components, Nikkei says Apple (AAPL) asked its supply chain to prepare around 20% fewer components for iPhones debuting in the latter half of 2018, Nikkei reports, citing industry sources. Apple last year placed orders to prepare for production of up to 100M units of the new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X, but this year the company currently expects total shipments of only 80M units for new models, two people told the paper. Further, two sources told Nikkei that Apple's supply chain was told to prepare earlier for the two organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, models. Two of Apple's three new iPhones will use OLED, Nikkei reported previously. Shares of Apple (AAPL) are down 2% to $189.55 in pre-market trading following the report.     OLED is a long than. They own the patents for OLED technology and supply into Samsung / LG screens - Samsung and LG have been key screen suppliers for AAPL, including Iphone X.
