Hi Matt. A major improvement

no e-mail yet

Posted by atlantis on 6th of Apr 2020 at 04:12 pm

Hi Matt. A major improvement would be to find a way to advise us before the market closes. I understand your system sometimes triggers after 4pm but for those of us who cannot trade options after hours this is a real bummer. I received your email at 16:08pm and I assure you, you are not considered as spam on my email provider.  Hopefully you can find a way to improve this over time either by SMS or advising us ahead when there is sufficient margin on your triggers. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Matt, I just noticed the dividend link in the menu on the left was no longer available. Was the section moved somewhere else or it is not maintained anymore ?

Thanks !

Hi everyone,

Check out this site for free charts. It also has minute charts. They even provide free APIs for programmers. Nice compliment to stockcharts.

jstock - Free software for charting, setting alerts, etc

Posted by atlantis on 6th of May 2014 at 10:42 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been meaning to program a software that would allow me to set rules and alerts to scan for me the stock market. While I was browsing the web, I found this great freeware, open source software that is still being supported today.

It's called jstock. As the name says, it is coded in Java. You can download the executable for your OS (Windows, Linux, Mac) or, if you prefer, download the entire source code and build it with Netbeans IDE.

http://www.jstock.org/

What impresses me the most is that you can build your own custom indicators using a graphical interface, no need to program it in Java. You can also setup alerts by email or even sms (if you have a google calendar account). Indicators are already available and can be downloaded. I use what already exists to teach myself how to write new ones.

All this is free and I'm seriously considering donating to the author. It supports most exchanges in the world, not only North-American ones.

If like me you would like to have a free software to search for market opportunities with the knowledge acquired from BPT, this is for you. Check it out.

Old trade idea from BPT is holding the 20MA. Maybe due for a bounce if the market holds.

VIMC. RSIs showing divergence on the last low on the 15 and 60 mins.

VIMC 15, VIMC 60

How to view minutes charts on stockcharts - revisited

Posted by atlantis on 28th of Jan 2014 at 11:00 pm

Hi everyone,

I found something tonight I thought I should share it with everyone...I'm amazed I didn't see this one sooner. Last year, by looking at urls from various stockcharts charts, I posted on the blog I could add to urls &cmd=print to view minute charts that were posted by stockcharts members (but non-stockcharts members like me did not have access to them). Well there's another way to view customizable minute charts by simply modify the URL from a daily chart to get minute charts.

Taking a simple example from Steve's newsletter today:

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=VIMC&p=D&yr=0&mn=6&dy=14&id=p32749535450&a=334061825&listNum=59

In the url, after VIMC, &p is the period. Can be W (weekly), D (for Daily), 120, 60, 30, 5, etc where numbers represent minute charts.

Then you can change the time range that will be shown on the graph (yr, mn or dy). Keep the rest of the address the same.

For example, by simply modifying parameters from the daily chart above, I make a VIMC 60 min chart over 0 month 14 days would become

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=VIMC&p=60&yr=0&mn=0&dy=14&id=p32749535450&a=334061825&listNum=59

Another example with 5 min chart over 3 days

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=VIMC&p=5&yr=0&mn=0&dy=3&id=p32749535450&a=334061825&listNum=59

Plus you get to keep all the original indicators from the daily chart. You can play around with the period, and time length parameters (yr, mn, dy) for more fun !

I also used minute charts with the &cmd=print at the end. You can still use them by modifying the same parameters and keeping the &cmd=print at the end.

Example SPX 120 min chart over 4 months and 25 days posted by Steve in tonight's newsletter

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$SPX&p=120&yr=0&mn=4&dy=25&id=p14821111223&a=299939826&listNum=61&cmd=print

can be changed to a 60 minute chart over 14 days like this

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$SPX&p=60&yr=0&mn=0&dy=14&id=p14821111223&a=299939826&listNum=61&cmd=print

Amazing, I don't need to ask around for minute charts anymore ! Hope this will be useful.

-1x ETFs...degrade over time ?

Posted by atlantis on 8th of Dec 2013 at 09:01 pm

Hi everyone,

2x and 3x Leverage ETFs have significant degradation over time. I was wondering, what about -1X ETFs such as SH (-1 SPY), RWM (-1 Russel). Would these be appropriate ETFs to trade or Swing Trade when the market eventually rolls over for a significant decline. If you have any more examples for Commodities and other markets, I would appreciate.

Thanks !

P.S. Happy Birthday Steve :)
