Need advice about retirement account, 401k system and financial advisors..

I'm a new subscriber and have been loving and learning A TON from Matt + Steve's commentary.  Been trading with a small account as I learn the ropes.

I'm 31 and have a sizable investment account with a financial team at Merrill Lynch. They charge 1.59% for management.  Is there any way their advice and management is worth this fee?

Would I be a lot better off dumping my funds into various Vanguard ETFs and using the BPT 401k system(or not trading it at all)?
